Prevention is always the best way to avoid disruption and losses. Business intruder alarms (also known as commercial burglar alarm systems) are essential for all businesses and organisations to protect again theft, vandalism and arson. Every security solution is tailored to the size and nature of your business to ensure you are enforcing the best setup for your organisation’s needs.
Intruder alarm systems protect property and possessions, and help create a safer, more secure work environment. This in turn will give your employees peace of mind and help them feel safe at work, with the added benefit of boosting employee wellbeing whilst alleviating your security worries.
What is an intruder alarm system?
In short, intruder alarms will detect attempted intrusion into a building, room or site. This typically will trigger an alert to specified operatives, massively reducing the likelihood of organisations and individuals becoming victims of intruder-based crime. The systems will generally consist of a control panel and internal or external keypads for ease of use.
Can intruder alarms be monitored night and day?
It is recommended that your system incorporates an ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) to monitor multiple companies and buildings for triggers. The most common triggers are security, intruder and fire alarms. It will alert a team of monitoring operatives who are highly trained to react quickly and take appropriate action when an alarm is triggered.
The ARC is therefore fully responsible for dealing with security triggers, which in turn takes off the pressure and responsibility from the company’s employees, all whilst adding an extra layer of security from 24/7 monitoring and alleviating any security worries.
Which intruder alarm set-up is recommended for my workplace?
Dual technology detectors are strongly recommended in particular for commercial use, as they significantly reduce false alarms. By using passive infrared sensors and a high-frequency microwave detector, the chance of a false alarm will be hugely reduced.
These also use sequential monitoring to assess whether an intrusion was genuine or not – if both the first and second detectors are triggered, an ARC operative will alert the police. This works because a single detector could be false, but it is very unlikely that the second alarm trigger will also be false, so a quick police response is necessary.
Dual-path monitoring is also very important for business premises, which means that even if the first connection path is disabled, the failure will be sent to the second path which can swiftly be responded to by the ARC.
What are the intruder alarm signalling grades?
There are four intruder alarm grades. These are:
- Grade 1 – intruders are not likely to target the premises
- Grade 2 – There’s a higher risk of theft due to factors such as valuable property being kept on-site
- Grade 3 – There is a considerable threat from intruders due to high-value contents
- Grade 4 – The property has a significant risk of being targeted by organised criminals
